The Toffees youngster has not had much game time since leaving the Goodison Park side on loan in the summer.

Everton loanee Josh Bowler has been described as a “very, very good player” by Hull City manager Grant McCann, who has admitted that the Toffees ace has endured a “frustrating” time at the KCOM Stadium due to a lack of game time (Hull Daily Mail).

The 20-year-old joined the Toffees from Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2017 and played a key role in David Unsworth’s Under-23s recording a superb Premier League 2 and Premier League Trophy double last season.

This term he has gone out on loan to Championship side Hull but, to date, his only starts have come in the Carabao Cup against Tranmere Rovers and Preston North End, with a further five appearances all coming off the bench in the league.

Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Cardiff City saw Bowler make a cameo off the bench in the final 28 minutes as a replacement for Leonardo Da Silva Lopes, although with Kamil Grosicki or Jarrod Bowen doing very well at present, it remains to be seen whether the Everton man will oust either of those from the starting XI just yet.

“Josh is a very, very good player,” McCann told the Hull Daily Mail. “I think if the fans could see him they’d be surprised by how good he really is. We had a reserve game during the week (beating York City 9-2) and he scored a hat-trick. He was excellent. He deserved to come off the bench because he’d trained well and done so well in the reserves game.

“It’s been frustrating for him because of Grosicki’s form and Bowen’s form but it was nice to get him on the pitch against Cardiff. What I did feel with the subs is that they gave us an impact. That’s maybe something we’ve been disappointed with, we haven’t really had that much this season but this time we showed it.”

Up next for Hull is Tuesday night’s meeting with Sheffield Wednesday at the KCOM Stadium.
