Everton want Joao Pedro and are ready to match Newcastle United’s bid to sign the Watford attacker ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.
The Toffees are in talks to sell Anthony Gordon to Chelsea, with the Blues allegedly prepared to pay around £60million for the winger.
Everton would need to find a replacement for Gordon if he does leave, with Frank Lampard needing wingers and strikers.
A host of names have been linked with Everton of late and you can now add Watford attacker Joao Pedro to the list.
Everton want Joao Pedro
The Daily Mail claim that Everton want to snap up Watford striker Joao Pedro and are now ready to rival Newcastle United in the race.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday that Newcastle United have agreed a deal worth £30million – £25million and £5million in add-ons – to sign Joao Pedro.
Yet with the deal not yet done, Everton are now attempting to hijack the deal and take Joao Pedro to Goodison Park after all.
Everton have now made contact with Watford to try and secure Joao Pedro, but the Brazilian is keen on a move to Newcastle.
We would still make Newcastle favourites here, but Everton’s interest certainly opens up the possibility of an intriguing move.
Joao Pedro followed in Richarlison’s footsteps by joining Watford from Fluminense, and the 20-year-old could copy him again by joining Everton.
Hailed as a ‘brilliant striker’ by former Watford boss Xisco Munoz, Joao Pedro is considered to be a talent with immense potential.
Three goals in 28 Premier League games last season may not sound all that impressive, but clubs know that the Brazilian has a huge future ahead of him.
It’s bold of Everton to enter the race right now given that a move to Newcastle seems very close, but Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell will now hope to pull off an impressive hijack.
