Everton have well have their own Sergio Busquets on their hands as excitement builds over the future of midfielder Jenson Metcalfe.

The Guardian have named Metcalfe in their top 20 Premier League youngsters, with one player named for each club.

Lewis Dobbin has real hype around him at the moment, but Metcalfe has been given the nod as Everton’s most exciting talent.

The write-up on Metcalfe praises his ‘outstanding passing range’ and his dead ball ability, believing he has huge quality on the ball.

Metcalfe has already made his Under-23 debut at the age of just 17, and has been a regular in the Under-18 Premier League this season.

Metcalfe is also quoted as saying that he wants to be like Busquets in the way he sets the tempo from the base of the Barcelona midfield.

Everton would no doubt love to see Metcalfe come even close to the level of Busquets. The Spaniard came through the Barcelona ranks and has been a mainstay of the team for more than a decade.

Seeing Metcalfe emulate that success would be ideal for Everton, who love a homegrown hero.

Add in that Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure are 30 and 28 respectively, and having a top young talented midfielder like Metcalfe for the future could see Everton set up for years.
