Everton want James Garner and a deal is now close for the midfielder, whose family are all huge Liverpool supporters.

The Toffees have brought in one midfielder this summer with Amadou Onana arriving from Lille.

Yet Frank Lampard could continue re-tooling his engine room by signing two more midfielders on deadline day.

Idrissa Gueye looks set to finally complete a protracted return to Goodison Park and Manchester United’s James Garner is closing in on a move.

Everton want James Garner

United have decided to sell Garner despite an impressive loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season, helping them win promotion from the Championship.

Whilst a number of Premier League clubs have been interested, it looks like Everton are winning the race.

The Athletic report that Everton have agreed a deal worth £9million rising to £15.5million and Garner is on the verge of arriving at Goodison Park.

Everton are ‘hopeful’ of getting Garner signed up before tonight’s transfer deadline and have avoided having to insert a buy-back clause into the deal.

Garner, 21, hails from Birkenhead, meaning a move to Everton allows him to play and star around his hometown.

Garner didn’t grow up a Toffee though; in fact, his family were diehard fans of the other huge Merseyside club.

Speaking to Watford’s official website back in November 2020, Garner confirmed that all of his family are big Liverpool supporters.

Garner even added that his idol was Steven Gerrard and he used to watch all the Liverpool games with his dad.

The midfielder added that he wore Adidas predators just to be like Gerrard, clearly showing huge admiration for the now-Aston Villa boss.

Garner may not only be joining Everton rather than the Anfield club, but could remarkably be in line for a debut against the Reds.

Everton take on Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend, meaning that if Garner can get his move over the line today, Garner may well line up against the team his family love so much.
