Everton want Ivan Toney and are ready to fight both Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign the Brentford striker.
It’s hardly a secret that Everton need to find themselves a new striker in the coming weeks.
Richarlison has been sold to Tottenham Hotspur and Dominic Calvert-Lewin is once again on the treatment table.
Everton have been linked with a host of strikers and you can now add yet another one to the list in Toney.
Everton want Ivan Toney
The Mirror claim that Everton want Brentford hitman Ivan Toney, but signing him could be a fight in itself with Chelsea and Manchester United also keen.
It’s stated that Toney is on the wish lists of all three clubs and Brentford are bracing themselves for a late approach.
Chelsea’s top target up front is PIerre-Emerick Aubameyang, but they could switch their attention to Toney if they can’t sign the Barcelona attacker.
That gives Everton a glimmer of hope, but Manchester United will be a major threat given their need for a new striker.
You do also have to ask whether Everton is really a step up for Toney, who has been likened to Didier Drogba by Brentford players.
Brentford finished seven points clear of the Toffees last season and heading to Goodison Park just doesn’t feel like a real progression right now.
Toney, 26, hit 12 goals in the Premier League last season and has already notched two goals in three league games to start this season.
A total record of 49 goals in 92 games for Brentford is hugely impressive, and Toney always gives defenders a tough game with his smart movement, pace and aerial ability.
Toney would certainly give Everton a boost in the final third, but we just can’t see how Everton can come up with offers to suit both Brentford and Toney himself.
If Toney is to leave Brentford – which still feels unlikely – then it may well be a Chelsea or Manchester United rather than Everton.
