The Daily Mail have reported that West Ham United striker Danny Ings was open to signing for Everton in January.

Sean Dyche and Co. are in serious need of a proven goalscorer as currently, they look destined to suffer the drop. As a result, it is no surprise to stumble upon a report by 90 Min that suggested that the club are indeed chasing Andre Ayew.

However, it has been claimed that Danny Ings, described as ‘brilliant’ by Matty Cash in November (via Express & Star) who has proven his class time and again in the Premier League would have happily joined Everton in January.

Ings was open to January transfer to Everton

But a new report by the Daily Mail has stated that ex-Toffees boss, Frank Lampard and director of football, Kevin Thelwell had decided that the Englishman was the ideal striker to rescue the side.

Furthermore, Danny Ings was ‘aware’ of the interest and was open to signing for Everton in the January transfer window.

However, it seems as if West Ham hijacked the switch, as they decided to sign him for £15 million (Sky Sports). The Merseyside-based side, on the other hand were intending on bringing the 30-year-old to Goodison Park on loan.

Ings would have been a superb signing for the Toffees

While the appointment of Sean Dyche looks like a brilliant one from Everton, a lack of investment into players such as Danny Ings has put him in a real predicament.

Some may argue that Ings, who has already suffered an injury at West Ham would have been an unreliable acquisition due to his fitness struggles.

That may well be true but for the relegation-battling side to not bring in any serious attacking reinforcements really sets them up to be playing in the Championship next season.

Ultimately, Everton must learn from their previous mistakes in the transfer market and snap up players like Danny Ings in January, when available.
