Everton are said to be interested in West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell, who is said to be keen to move to Goodison Park.

According to a report in the printed edition of The Sun (April 8th, Goals page 13), Everton are preparing a £25 million bid for West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell in the summer.

Everton are in need for a new left-back, after struggling for options in the position all season.

Leighton Baines has been out injured for the bulk of the campaign, with Cuco Martina having to cover on the left hand side of the defence.

Everton need to make signing a left-back a priority when the transfer window re-opens, but spending £25 million on Cresswell would be misguided.

The Toffees may have a wealth of funds available to them, but Cresswell’s price-tag seems overly inflated.

The West Ham defender has struggled this season, with his form often being criticised at the London Stadium.

While Cresswell is a solid defender, he simply cannot be considered a £25 million left-back.

For that sort of fee, Everton could afford to bring someone of the calibre of Luke Shaw.

The Toffees could also target the likes of Patrick van Aanholt, Frank Fabra or Ryan Bertrand for much cheaper.

And even though Cresswell is said to be keen on a move to Everton, they would be much better off looking elsewhere.
