Everton are gearing up for a season in the Championship in 2022, according to Football Manager 2017.

Things look incredibly bright at Everton right now, with the Toffees making a number of marquee signings this summer, and looking to have a squad that may perhaps be able to contend for a top four spot next term.

In the world of Football Manager 2017 however, things are not so bright by the year 2022, with Everton – with Vladimir Weiss now in charge – gearing up for a season in the Championship.

With that in mind, here is a look at the side that beat Derby early on in the campaign…

GK: Will Mannion

Everton paid Hull £2 million for Will Mannion this summer, with Joel Robles the current understudy.

RB: Emilio Pastore

A FM regen, Emilio Pastore joined the Toffees on loan from Chelsea. Current Everton right-back Seamus Coleman was released in the summer of 2022, joining Preston North End.

CB: Lukas Klostermann

Lukas Klostermann joined Everton for £9.25 million from the Chinese Super League ahead of their Championship season. Ramiro Funes Mori’s move to Bournemouth has seen the right-back deployed more often in the middle.

CB: Brendan Galloway

Both of Everton’s centre-backs in 2022 are currently considered to be full-backs, with Brendan Galloway also moving into the middle. Everton want £23 million for the now 26-year-old who is an England international.

LB: Andreas Karlsson

Andreas Karlsson is another FM regen who has just joined Everton for £2.7 million. Leighton Baines retired in 2020.

DM: Jure Valencic

Another FM regen, Everton paid £14 million for the Swiss, who failed to justify that fee during the Toffees’ relegation campaign. Despite his poor form, he is still keeping Idrissa Gueye out of the side.

RM: Radim Kovarik

The last FM regen in the Toffees’ squad, Everton paid £10 million for Radim Kovarik despite the fact that he joined Tottenham the year before for £3.2 million and spent the season on loan at Sampdoria, where he barely played.

CM: James McCarthy

While it may be difficult to leave, James McCarthy remains an Everton player in 2022 according to Football Manager 2017 – probably something to do with Ronald Koeman’s relatively early sacking.

CM: Ross Barkley

If McCarthy’s presence in the Everton team is a surprise, it is nothing compared to the fact that Ross Barkley remains. In reality, his departure seems inevitable this summer, according to The Sun, with Everton wanting £50 million. His form on the game has been incredibly poor for a number of years, yet Stoke still want to pay £17 million for him.

LM: Raheem Sterling

Yeah, Raheem Sterling is an Everton player in 2022 according to FM 2017. He joined on a free in 2020 in a move that was bound to make him even more popular with the Liverpool fans.

Romelu Lukaku

Somehow, somehow, Romelu Lukaku remains an Everton player in the Championship despite reaching double figures every season. He now captains the side. In reality, his days as a Toffees player look numbered, with the Guardian reporting that a £75 million move to Manchester United is on the cards.
