Everton have made contact with Paris Saint-Germain over a stunning late deal to bring Idrissa Gueye back to Goodison Park on deadline day.

That’s according to The Mirror, who claim that contact has been made as Everton make their first move to re-sign Gueye.

Before Everton fans get too giddy about Gueye coming back, the report does note that this potential deal is ‘complicated’.

Gueye is currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations and won’t be available to travel to finalise a deadline day deal.

Gueye started and played the full 90 minutes as Senegal beat Equatorial Guinea 3-1 to reach the semi-finals of AFCON.

Liverpool managed to get around similar issues with Luis Diaz during his International commitments with Colombia, but Everton don’t have much time.

Gueye, 32, joined Everton from Aston Villa back in 2016, racking up 108 appearances for the Toffees.

In 2019, Gueye left Everton for a return to France with Paris Saint-Germain, where Thomas Tuchel branded him a ‘machine’.

Gueye has three goals in 15 Ligue 1 games this season, which isn’t bad at all for a midfielder more known for his defensive ability.

Gueye is now into the final 18 months of his PSG contract and Everton are seemingly hoping to secure a shock return.

Frank Lampard is coming in as Everton boss and it looks like new midfielders will be joining him at Goodison Park.

Donny van de Beek is coming in on loan from Manchester United for some creativity and attacking thrust.

Gueye joining too would mark two major improvements to Everton’s midfield, with Lampard knowing a thing or two about midfield play.

This one won’t be easy for Everton to get done on deadline day, but Gueye is a surprise name for fans to keep an eye on in the coming hours.
