Former Everton captain Kevin Campbell has criticised Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for going against his comments in 2016 about spending, with AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson set to move to Anfield.
Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Brazil’s World Cup goalkeeper after agreeing a fee of £66.9million, according to The Guardian, who will become the world’s most expensive shot-stopper.
The Reds, who reached the Champions League final after beating Alisson’s Roma in the semi-final, also boast the world’s most expensive defender in Virgil van Dijk who cost an astronomical £75million from Southampton.
Klopp’s quotes from 2016 have resurfaced: “Other clubs can go out and spend more money and collect top players. I want to do it differently,” and Campbell reacted on Twitter by criticising the Reds manager.
Alisson is set to become Liverpool’s fourth signing of the summer, after Klopp has already spent large sums on midfielders Naby Keita and Fabinho, as well as landing Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City.
The imminent arrival of Alisson throws the future of both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius into doubt at Anfield, with the lattre’s blunder in the Champions League final still said to be affecting him in pre-season.
