Everton want Hwang Hee-chan and are now ready to battle Leeds United in the race to sign the Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker before the deadline.
The Toffees have finally added to their attack by signing Neal Maupay from Brighton and Hove Albion.
Frank Lampard isn’t done there though and still needs more new faces in attack to take Everton forward.
You can expect to see the likes of Armando Broja and Serhou Guirassy linked with Everton in the coming days.
Yet Kevin Thelwell could look to sign another Wolves player having already landed defender Conor Coady this summer.
Everton want Hwang Hee-chan
Thelwell clearly still has great ties with Wolves having served as their sporting director for three-and-a-half years.
Now, The Sun report that Everton are interested in signing Wolves attacker Hwang Hee-chan, with Thelwell a fan.
It’s stated that Everton plan to make a move for Hwang if they can’t strike a deal to sign Blackburn Rovers attacker Ben Brereton Diaz.
Everton allegedly haven’t yet come up with the £15million Blackburn are seeking for their prized forward.
If that deal doesn’t move forward quickly, Thelwell could move for Hwang instead, with the South Korean international allegedly valued at around £15million too.
Hwang, 26, only scored five goals in 30 Premier League games last season having joined Wolves from RB Leipzig.
Not really a natural goalscorer, Hwang is quick, hard-working and versatile having played as a striker or as a winger for Wolves.
That may not fill Everton fans with much confidence though as they need goals, and seeing Brereton Diaz rack them up in the Championship may make him more appealing to supporters.
Erling Haaland is a big fan of Hwang at least, calling him ‘absolutely crazy’ during their time together at Red Bull Salzburg.
Thelwell will face a fight for Hwang though as it’s understood that Leeds United are also interested in a late deal in the coming days.
Leeds boss Jesse Marsch coached Hwang at Red Bull Salzburg and a reunion could make sense for all parties, meaning Everton face a real fight to pull off this signing.
