Everton boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed to the press today that Leighton Baines will still not be available for selection for the upcoming Premier League tie with West Ham United at the weekend.

The left-back has not recovered from a hamstring problem and will therefore be out of action once again.

That will again see Bryan Oviedo step in to take his place in the Everton first-team. The Costa Rican international has been his long-term back-up option but his presence in the starting XI on Sunday is unlikely to have Everton fans jumping for joy.

He is clearly not at the standard of Baines and his current Premier League streak certainly suggests that. Everton have failed to win their last nine games in the top-flight in which Oviedo started.

Everton have lost to Burnley, Bournemouth, Leicester City, Liverpool and West Ham in that time – with draws against Crystal Palace (twice), Southampton and Manchester City.

The streak began with the 3-2 loss against West Ham at Goodison Park in March, with Oviedo’s last Premier League triumph being a 3-1 win against Aston Villa four days earlier.

This weekend they face West Ham at Goodison Park again. Oviedo will hope to put an end to his unwanted streak in the fixture, and not hit double figures.
