Should Everton have moved for Yann M’Vila this month?
Everton boss Sam Allardyce might be kicking himself if he happens to read about Saint Etienne’s latest bit of transfer business.
The Ligue 1 side signed former Sunderland midfielder Yann M’Vila on an 18-month contract.
By virtue of the fact that he was free and Everton need a midfielder of that ilk, you have to wonder why Allardyce didn’t try and re-sign the France international this month.
M’Vila impressed under Allardyce at Sunderland during a season-long loan on Wearside in the 2015-16 season and M’Vila holds the now-Toffees boss in high esteem, to the point that he recommended Allardyce’s Crystal Palace to compatriot Mamadou Sakho last year, reported The Chronicle.
The feeling is mutual and the 63-year-old manager wanted to sign the former Ruben Kazan midfielder on a permanent basis at Sunderland, only for a move to break down.
James McCarthy and Morgan Schneiderlin have both been linked with moves away from Merseyside this month.
M’Vila is 27, in the middle of his prime, and he would’ve been an outstanding replacement for either, but the chance is lost.
