Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg could finally overcome a groin injury by the start of next month according to the Liverpool Echo, as he remains on the sidelines at Goodison Park.
Stelekenburg, 35, has managed just three appearances for the Toffees, featuring twice in the Europa League and once in the EFL Cup, before suffering the muscle problem in October.
It has seen out-of-contract Spanish goalkeeper Joel Robles act as Jordan Pickford’s understudy, while Mateusz Hewelt remains way down the pecking order as third choice under Sam Allardyce.
But Stekelenburg could re-assume his position as second-choice goalkeeper at Goodison Park by returning to the substitutes bench when the Toffees travel to Arsenal on February 3.
Everton face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday at home before facing Leicester City on January 31, games in which the 58-time Netherlands international is expected to miss.
Since being brought to the club by Ronald Koeman, the former Roma, Ajax and Fulham goalkeeper has made 24 appearances and kept seven clean sheets – conceding just 29 goals.
