Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has spoken to the press in the Netherlands about his return to the Dutch national team this week.
The Everton goalie has 54 caps for his country and played in a World Cup final back in 2008. But the 34-year-old’s struggle for form and football at Fulham saw him out of contention for some time.

He was last called up in September, after a good start at Everton, but last played for his country against Romania in October 2012 – four years ago.
After his impressive early form at Everton he may even get to start this week’s fixtures with Belarus and France. Jasper Cillessen has not been playing regularly since joining Barcelona and Jeroen Zoet is his other competitor.

Speaking to De Telegraaf he spoke of his hopes to get a chance with Oranje yet again:
“I assume that the coach follows my games here and also look at the training. Then afterwards he will judge me.”

Dutch coach Danny Blind has confirmed that Cillessen will not start the game and it looks increasingly likely that the Everton star will get his chance between the sticks for his country once again.
After four long years, it will feel like a second debut for Everton’s rejuvenated goalie.
