Everton have swooped once on Ajax already this summer to sign Davy Klaassen, and they now have the ideal opportunity to move for his talented teammate Kasper Dolberg.
Ajax have so far resisted interest from clubs – and Everton are among the striker’s chief admirers, the Liverpool Echo reported earlier this summer.
Last night their season suffered a significant blow as they were dumped out of the Champions League by French side Nice.
Ajax were eliminated from the qualifying rounds on the away goals rule after a 2-2 home draw and 3-3 aggregate scoreline.
The opportunity to play in the Champions League was a major draw for Ajax’s top stars like Dolberg, who led the Dutch club to the Europa League Final last season.
Dolberg scored 22 goals in all competitions, marking himself out as one of Europe’s top prospects.
At just 19-years-old he is an outstanding talent, and one Everton should be going all out to land.
His link up with Klaassen is already established, and Everton still need to add a striker capable of replacing Romelu Lukaku’s goal return.
Ajax’s Champions League elimination makes Dolberg a lot easier for Everton to sign – especially as there are unlikely to be any financial barriers to the deal.
