Everton given hope of re-signing Leeds United player

Leeds United have confirmed the exit of goalkeeper Joel Robles amid claims Everton want him back at Goodison Park.

Everton target Joel Robles is set to become a free agent again after Leeds United confirmed his departure.

The Whites have announced on their official website that Robles is one of four players who will be released this summer.

Goalkeeper Will Brook, midfielder Adam Forshaw and youngster Stuart McKinstry have all been let go alongside Robles.

The announcement does though claim that both Forshaw and Robles have been invited back for pre-season training.

That may indicate that Leeds still have hopes of keeping both players moving forward despite their release.

Much will depend on who Leeds bring in as their new manager.

Sam Allardyce has gone and Leeds are now searching for a replacement ahead of their return to the Championship.

Robles surely won’t commit to Leeds’ pre-season plans without them having a manager – especially when a Premier League move could be on the cards.

Everton want Joel Robles again

The Sun reported over the weekend that Everton were interested in bringing Robles back to the club.

The Athletic back that up, suggesting that Robles has interest from Everton this summer.

The Toffees have seen Asmir Begovic turn down a new deal to stay at the club, so Sean Dyche wants another veteran stopper.

Robles could be that player in what would be a return to Merseyside for the Spaniard.

Robles, 32, joined Everton from Atletico Madrid in 2013 having been on loan at Wigan Athletic.

That meant a reunion with Roberto Martinez but Robles only ever played 42 times in the Premier League for Everton.

Robles moved on to Real Betis in 2018 and then Leeds in 2022, leading him to this point – being available on a free transfer again.

Everton may now bring Robles back and Leeds’ decision to let him go opens the door for a bargain return.
