Everton director of football Marcel Brands has been tasked with making them more efficient in the transfer window.

If Everton bring in Bernard for a free and then sell Yannick Bolasie for £15 million, it could be a superb move from Marcel Brands.

The Sun claim that Burnley are ready to pay £15 million for Bolasie on deadline day, while Bernard is expected to arrive at Goodison Park any time soon.

Bernard is out of contract, meaning Everton have not had to pay a fee to snap him up.

And, if he is to be Bolasie’s replacement, then Brands has somehow enabled the Toffees to make an upgrade, and still bring in £15 million profit.

Everton have been criticised, on occasion, for spending overly lavishly.

But improving their side, while making money on Bolasie, looks like really smart business from Everton.

And Brands would have to be commended for completing such an impressive piece of transfer business during his first few months at the club.
