Everton fans on Twitter have called on manager Sam Allardyce to give Davy Klaassen a birthday present in the form of a match this weekend.

The Toffees go to Watford on Saturday and it would be a surprise if Klaassen is involved for the visitors.

The Netherlands midfielder, who joined Everton in a £23.6 million deal from Ajax last summer, has endured an anonymous first season on Merseyside and hasn’t kicked a ball for the club in over two months.

His last Premier League appearance came way back in September during Ronald Koeman’s reign and hasn’t featured in a top-flight game under David Unsworth or Allardyce, since the Dutch manager was sacked in October.

But Klaassen turned 25 on Wednesday and fans of the Goodison Park club are desperate to see him return.

Ever Banega of Sevilla beats Davy Klaassen of Everton during a pre-season friendly match between Everton and Sevilla at Goodison Park on August 6, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

The fact that Morgan Schneiderlin plays regularly ahead of Klaassen is slightly worrying, and maybe the fact that Koeman and Unsworth also didn’t deem the Dutchman good enough is telling.

If it was just Allardyce then perhaps Everton fans have a case, but the Ajax academy product was effectively frozen out when Koeman was still in charge, which suggests a bigger problem and it seems unlikely that he’ll feature at Vicarage Road – and for the rest of the season at the moment.
