A number of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the Toffees’ 1-0 defeat to Burnley in the Premier League and Blues captain Seamus Coleman has been receiving a fair bit of criticism for his red card during the game.

The 30-year-old, already on a yellow card for a bad tackle on Erik Pieters, was sent off shortly before the hour after jumping in late for a challenge on Dwight McNeil and clattering into the winger after the ball had gone, cue the referee getting out the second yellow.

Following Coleman’s departure, Burnley went on to take the lead through Jeff Hendrick, making the post of poor Everton defending for a corner to drift to the back post and volley beyond Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Already the Republic of Ireland international has had some doubters this season but, following his latest lacklustre performance and early bath, some Everton fans made their feelings known on social media:

Coleman has been on the books at Everton since 2009, is contracted to the Toffees until the summer of 2022 (Transfermarkt) on a reported £70,000-per-week deal (Spotrac), with close to 300 senior appearances under his belt, and currently valued at £13.5million (Transfermarkt).
