The Toffees wished Eto’o – who had a brief spell at Goodison Park in 2014 – all the best on Twitter.

A number of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on ex-Toffees striker Samuel Eto’o announcing his retirement aged 38 (Instagram).
The Cameroon legend is widely deemed one of the greatest strikers of all time, boasting an illustrious and trophy-laden CV spanning 22 years in the game.
Eto’o is Cameroon’s all-time scorer, the Africa Cup of Nations’ all-time top scorer, an Olympic gold medallist and a four-time African Player of the Year, a record shared with former Manchester City star Yaya Toure.
He has also enjoyed a very fruitful career at club level, winning numerous trophies with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Mallorca – including four Champions Leagues (Transfermarkt) – plus multiple individual accolades.
Eto’o’s time in England was relatively brief, spending a season at Chelsea and half a season at Goodison Park, but in his 20 games for Everton, he claimed a respectable four goals and two assists (Transfermarkt).
The Toffees paid tribute to him with a post on their Twitter feed which featured a goal compilation:
Last year, after a short spell with Turkish side Konyaspor, Eto’o joined Qatar Sports Club, his last club as a professional player.
