The Toffees praised the Goodison Park academy graduate after captaining England U21s to victory in Turkey.

A number of Everton fans have been commenting on Twitter about Tom Davies having captained England Under-21 to a 3-2 win over their Turkey counterparts in Izmit.

The Toffees academy graduate has barely had any game time at Goodison Park this term – just 11 minutes, in fact – but he was nonetheless handed the captain’s armband for the Euro 2021 qualifying clash.

The Young Lions made the perfect start courtesy of Eddie Nketiah’s fourth-minute goal but the hosts responded through Dogukan Sinik and Mert Muldur, only for a quickfire second-half double from Nketiah and Reiss Nelson to seal victory for the visitors.

Here is some of what was said on social media regarding Davies’ display for England’s U21s, with the Everton feed posting about their player’s exploits:

Davies has struggled for game time in recent months but the £13.5million-valued midfielder was handed a contract until 2023 in April, as noted on Transfermarkt.

England’s U21s will now go to Hull City’s KCOM Stadium on Monday to host their Kosovo counterparts, who have won both of their opening qualifying fixtures.
