Everton supporters are concerned that Martin O’Neill could become a managerial target for them, following the Republic of Ireland’s failure to qualify for the World Cup.

Ireland lost in a play off to Denmark last night, which means they will not be at Russia next summer.

And the defeat has left O’Neill’s future firmly up in the air.

The experienced boss may now decide to leave, or he could even be sacked and Everton fans fear that O’Neill could come on to their radar.

O’Neill has not had a job in club management since he left Sunderland back in 2013, but he has been highly regarded throughout his career.

Everton fans do not appear to feel he is the right man to take them forward, though.

Everton are still searching for Ronald Koeman’s replacement, and finding his successor has proven to be problematic.

Everton have been linked with a whole host of different managers, but they have failed to get a deal over the line yet.

Everton are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
