Everton academy graduate Ross Barkley started for Chelsea as they were beaten by Tottenham in the EFL Cup.

Everton fans on Twitter have ripped into their former player Ross Barkley for his poor showing as Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final encounter.
The 25-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge from Goodison Park in January 2018 and ended up winning the FA Cup in his first season at the club.
On Tuesday night, Maurizio Sarri opted to start Barkley in the middle of the park as Chelsea looked to gain an advantage against Spurs in a crucial EFL Cup clash at Wembley.
But the England man produced a poor display and was criticised by the supporters of his former club, who think he has not changed since his move to London.
Striker Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game from the spot kick, with Barkley substituted by his manager and replaced by Mataeo Kovacica with 15 minutes left on the clock.
One Everton fan on Twitter claimed that the Chelsea players were trying to ‘by pass’ Barkley because he is like ‘a fish out of water’.

Others just laughed at his performance as Sarri’s side will be looking to turn over Spurs’ advantage when the duo meet in the reverse fixture later this month.
Over the course of this season, Barkley has played 27 games in all competitions for Chelsea, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
