Everton reportedly wanted the Crystal Palace striker when he was at Liverpool.
It has been reported that the Merseyside outfit have identified the former Liverpool striker as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku has left Everton for Premier League rivals Manchester United for a transfer fee reported by The Mirror to be worth £75 million.
According to The Mirror, Belgium international striker Benteke is on the radar of Everton manager Ronald Koeman, along with Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud.
Benteke is a former Liverpool striker and was on the books of the Reds for the 2015-16 campaign.
The 26-year-old did not have a great time at Anfield, though, as he was able to score just nine goals in 29 Premier League appearances.
The former Aston Villa star, though, did well at Palace last season; he scored 15 goals and provided two assists in 36 Premier League matches for a side that narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship.
Everton fans should not be surprised with Koeman’s reported interest in Benteke. The Toffees were linked with the Belgian before – when he was at Liverpool.
Back on August 3, 2016, The Mirror reported that Everton were looking at Benteke as a potential replacement for Lukaku.
The former Genk star eventually left Liverpool for Palace a few weeks ago for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £27m, and it seems that he is back on Koeman’s radar. Second time lucky?
