Everton’s Romelu Lukaku celebrates scoring their fifth goal
Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has long admitted his desire to play Champions League football and lauded the competition last night.
Manchester City and AS Monaco played out one of the most entertaining games in recent memory at the Etihad, and Lukaku was an enthralled observer.
Sending a message out late in the dramatic 5-3 City win, Lukaku talked up how the Champions League can define a player’s career.
Lukaku is first choice striker at Everton but the club have fallen short of qualification for the Champions League during his spell at the club and look destined to do so again this season.
The Belgian has spoken openly of his desire to move on in the past to play in the competition, and watching last night’s game is unlikely to deter him.
This season he has scored 16 goals in 24 Premier League games, form which may attract bids for his services this summer.
Everton fans had a mixed reaction to his message last night, with some encouraging him to stay at the club and experience Champions League nights at Everton, and others worried about an impending departure.
