The Toffees U21s stretched their unbeaten run to nine games as the Goodison Park youngsters – in particular Anthony Gordon – continue to shine.

A number of Everton fans have been commenting on Twitter about the Toffees U21s latest impressive performance, running out 2-0 winners at Burton Albion in the EFL Trophy.

David Unsworth’s charges took a sixth-minute lead when the Brewers lost possession in midfield and the ball was slid through for the prolific Ellis Simms to bear down and goal and rifle part the opposition goalkeeper.

Everton U21s then doubled their advantage after 55 minutes when Anthony Gordon made the most of a sloppy pass at the back to have a shot, his low shot well saved to his right by Stephen Bywater, only for the rebound to be tucked away by Anthony Evans.

The result sees the young Toffees top their EFL Trophy group, having previously come out on top in their group opener at Mansfield Town, winning a penalty shootout at Field Mill, and stretches their unbeaten start to the season to nine games.

Here is what some Everton fans said on social media regarding the result, including about one player who’s been making waves:

Gordon, capped for England at Under-18s level, became the sixth youngest man to play for Everton’s first team when – aged 16 years 286 days – he came on as a substitute in the Toffees’ 3-0 Europa League group stage win over Apollon Limassol in December 2017 (official Toffees website).
