Everton are out of the Carabao Cup after being beaten 2-0 by Manchester United on Wednesday night.

The Toffees were hoping to be the last team into the semi-finals, but came up short against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Edinson Cavani arguably should have been sent off for an off-the-ball incident with Yerry Mina, and he rubbed salt into the wound by opening the scoring with a superb left-footed finish.

Anthony Martial then tucked home a second, giving the Red Devils a comfortable win and a passage into the semi-finals against rivals Manchester City.

Everton fans will ultimately be disappointed that another potential trophy has slipped away, but they did find something to praise on Twitter.

Defender Mina impressed despite the 2-0 defeat, particularly turning in a strong first-half showing to keep the scoreline at 0-0 come half time.

Fans branded Mina ‘immense’, ‘unreal’ and ‘excellent’, praising him for a solid display and a colossal first-half showing.

Others thought his first 45 minutes were ‘absolutely unbelievable’ and ultimately felt that he was the man of the match by a mile, hailing the Colombian for a fine display.
