The former Everton striker has retired on his 35th birthday.
Former Everton striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has announced his retirement from playing on his 35th birthday.
Yakubu, who was capped by Nigeria on 57 occasions, first came to English football in 2003, when he joined Portsmouth on loan from Maccabi Haifa.
Spells with Middlesbrough and Everton followed, while, amongst several other clubs, he also played for the likes of Leicester City, Blackburn Rovers, Reading and Coventry City.
Yakubu played for Everton between 2007 and 2011 and made more appearances for the Toffees than for any other club during his career as he scored 33 goals in 107 games.
Although his work-rate was frequently called into question, Yakubu certainly did manage to catch the eye with his goalscoring exploits and he is remembered fondly by many Everton supporters.

Yakubu’s most prolific season for Everton came in the 2007/08 campaign as he managed to score 15 goals in 29 Premier League appearances.
Gradually Yakubu’s playing time at Everton became less frequent and he was sent out on loan to Leicester in January 2011 prior to leaving permanently for Blackburn later that year.
