The Toffees boss seems keen to keep the Turkish striker on board but some Goodison Park faithful aren’t too happy about the idea.

Marco Silva has claimed that Cenk Tosun still has a future at Everton despite slipping out of the first-team picture.

The striker was not even on the bench for the Toffees during their match against Burnley on Boxing Day and has made just one Premier League start since mid-September (Transfermarkt).

Silva has tended to utilise Dominic Calvert-Lewin up front over the past few weeks, while Richarlison has also been used in a central role this season, seemingly rendering Tosun surplus to requirements.

The Portuguese coach, however, insists the decision not to include the Turkey internation as a “technical” and, speaking ahead of Saturday’s trip to Brighton & Hove Albion, he stressed he has no plans to offload him.

Asked by the Liverpool Echo if Tosun still had a future at Goodison Park, Silva replied: “Yes, why not? It was not just Cenk who was left out of the squad. James McCarthy was also left out. It was not just him.

“I decided to go with (Oumar) Niasse on Wednesday and we will see what I do tomorrow. Morgan Schneiderlin has also been left out of squads as well. We have 27 players and we have to decide. We can only have 18 in the squad list and have to make a decision.”

Following Silva’s comments on Tosun, some Everton fans took to Twitter and didn’t seem too impressed with the prospect of keeping him on:

Tosun has made 30 appearances for Everton since his move from Besiktas in January this year, but with just seven goals and two assists in the process, it doesn’t really seem like he is justifying his transfer fee.
