Real Madrid’s 2-0 win at Malaga secured the Liga title – but Everton target Sandro Ramirez took his chance to shine.
The fact that Real Madrid’s hopes of lifting a first La Liga title since the Jose Mourinho era rested on a final day trip to Malaga had the conspiracy theorists donning their tin foil hats.
After all, Malaga boss Michel is a bonafide Real Madrid legend. And he hardly quelled speculation that the Costa Del Sol club would roll over when claiming before the game that “I would rather give Madrid a guard of honour than screw it up for them,” as reported by FourFourTwo.
If that was the plan, however, nobody told Sandro Ramirez.
Though the 2-0, title-securing scoreline appears to suggest that Real cruised to a first title in five seasons, the game was a largely even affair.
Malaga had their chances – most of them emanating from Sandro Ramirez’s wand of a right boot. Thumping a Shaolin Soccer style free-kick towards the top corner, the 21-year-old forced Madrid shot-stopper Keylor Navas to slam into the post to block the ball-turned-bullet in the first half.
And while the former Barcelona youngster couldn’t do his former club a favour, his lively performance offered yet another indication as to why Everton are so keen to sign him this summer.
The Independent claimed recently that The Toffees were confident they had beaten Tottenham Hotspur to the 14-goal forward who, thanks to a buyout clause in his contract, could be available for a bargain £5 million.
And though La Liga expert Guillem Balague claimed Sandro would prefer to remain in La Liga with Atletico (Liverpool Echo), his performance against Real on Sunday night means Everton should not merely sit back and accept defeat.
