Cenk Tosun did not start for Everton at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday.
Cenk Tosun was signed in the January transfer window in order to score goals, but the Turkey international forward did not start for Everton against Arsenal on Saturday evening.
The 26-year-old started the Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium in North London on the substitutes’ bench for the Toffees.
The forward did come on, but only in the 78th minute; by then, the damage was already done and Everton had virtually lost the game.
Tosun joined Everton from Turkish giants Besiktas in the January transfer window for a transfer fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £27 million.
Much was expected of the forward when he arrived at Goodison Park, but the 26-year-old has failed to make a huge impact so far.
Explaining his decision not to include Tosun in the starting lineup against Arsenal, Everton manager Sam Allardyce told The Liverpool Echo after the 5-1 defeat: “He’s had service to him that he’s not held up and he’s found it a bit of a struggle at this level because of the pace and the physicality of the game.
“So his service hasn’t been too bad but his hold up play hasn’t been like it was at Besiktas so that’s why he’s not starting the games at the minute because he’s finding it tough going like every player does, particularly when they come in January.”
Allardyce added: “I’m more concerned about the other players than I am about Cenk. I’m more likely to feed him slowly and give him a bit more time over the next few weeks and hopefully by the end of the season he starts games.”
Everton fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to give their reaction to the aforementioned comments from Allardyce on Tosun – they are not pleased.
Everton are 10th in the Premier League table at the moment with 31 points from 26 matches.
