Ellis Simms will reportedly get promoted into Everton’s senior side next season.

It looks like Ellis Simms might be set to get fast-tracked to the big time at Everton.
According to The Mirror [print edition, 27/06/2019, page 62], Toffees boss Marco Silva has no plans on loaning out the 18-year-old hitman after a phenomenal 2018-19 campaign with the youth side at Finch Farm, and will instead promote him to the senior side.
The Everton product scored a stunning 46 goals last season, including 32 in 21 Under-18 outings.
Silva needs a couple of recognised strikers after Cenk Tosun’s struggles over the past 18 months, and fans of the Goodison Park club are excited about the prospect of seeing Simms in Silva’s senior setup next term.
You can understand why Everton fans are happy because, well, every fanbase loves to see one of their own dazzling in the first team.
But it’s a huge risk by Silva if he promotes Simms as the expense of signing an experienced striker. Yes, he is exceptionally talented and his goal record for the youth sides proves as much, but he has no experience of playing against men and it just isn’t the same.
The Portuguese manager needs to think long and hard about promoting him, especially if it means that he won’t be bringing in a top-drawer, proven goalscorer.
