Everton picked up a much-needed victory on Sunday afternoon, beating Chelsea 2-0 at Goodison Park with a superb second half display.
The Toffees squandered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at Newcastle United last weekend, meaning Marco Silva was once again under pressure to get a positive result.
Everton were dire in the first half, being far too passive all around the pitch as Chelsea went close on a number of occasions, but that all changed in the second half.
Richarlison opened the scoring for Everton from close range after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header had been saved, before Richarlison caused more mayhem by winning a penalty.
Gylfi Sigurdsson’s effort was saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga, but the Icelandic international followed up to score with the rebound.
Everton saw out the game to claim a 2-0 victory, and the win was made even sweeter by Ross Barkley being hauled off the pitch on his return to Goodison Park.
The former Everton midfielder was making his first return to Goodison Park having left the club for Chelsea in January 2018, and whilst he showed flashes of quality in the first half, he was substituted for Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the second half.
Booed and jeered throughout before being heckled off the pitch as he clapped the Everton fans, Barkley enjoyed a disappointing return – but Everton supporters loved it.
Some called him ‘Dross Barkley’ and suggested he’s a joke and ‘absolute garbage’, though others joked that it was his best ever game at Goodison Park, with some frustrated that fans were more interested in booing Barkley than supporting current Everton players.
