The Toffees fell to defeat against the domestic treble champions at Goodison Park as Marco Silva’s charges continue to suffer from poor league form.

Everton attacker Richarlison has given his thoughts on the Toffees’ 3-1 loss to Manchester City at the weekend, praising the Toffees’ efforts against the Premier League and English cup champions and saying Marco Silva’s side matched them for much of the game at Goodison Park.

The Toffees put in a battling display against the domestic treble champions on Merseyside on Saturday as Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised for the hosts just after the half hour mark, cancelling out Gabriel Jesus’ opener on 24 minutes.

However, Riyad Mahrez put the visitors back in front when he beat Jordan Pickford with a free kick into the bottom corner from 20 yards out, and Raheem Sterling made sure of victory for Pep Guardiola’s side when he fired home off the bar with his left foot, VAR confirmed the ball had crossed the line.

Everton have now lost their last three Premier League games in a row, and four of their last five, but Richarlison is positive about how they performed, telling the official Everton website: “We played with a lot of belief and put in a good performance but did not get the result.

“It was very important we played well, we were up against a great team and managed to match them for a lot of the game. Unfortunately we conceded from a dead-ball and it was hard afterwards.”

Some Everton fans, however, are losing patience with their team’s poor form and took to social media to give their thoughts:

Up next for Marco Silva’s side is their Premier League trip to Burnley next Saturday.
