England are through to the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League after coming from behind to bet Croatia 2-1 at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

In a winner-takes-all match, England were hoping to exorcise some demons from their past against Croatia, having lost a number of big games against them over the years.

After failing to make their dominance count in the first half, England fell behind to a deflected Andrej Kramaric strike, leaving many to wonder whether history was repeating itself with another defeat to Croatia.

However, Jesse Lingard and Harry Kane both struck in the final 15 minutes to turn the game on its head and give England the victory, top spot in the group and a passage to the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League in Portugal next summer.

England fans will have been delighted with the victory, but those of an Everton persuasion may have also been looking at the performance of playmaker Nikola Vlasic.

Vlasic, 21, was signed by Everton in 2017 but struggled for first-team football, and when Marco Silva became Everton manager, the playmaker moved out on loan to CSKA Moscow, where he has been thriving.

Sunday was a major opportunity for Vlasic to show that he can make an impact in England, but Everton fans weren’t exactly impressed with his showing.

Some suggested that he was average or even anonymous against England despite setting up Kramaric’s goal, with a common view that he was barely noticeable before being substituted on 79 minutes, with few excited about his eventual return based off Sunday’s showing.
