The Everton playmaker suffered an ankle injury against Chelsea on Sunday.

Gylfi Sigurdsson of Everton looks dejected after the Premier League match between Everton and Burnley at Goodison Park on October 1, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Everton star Gylfi Sigurdsson will play no part in Iceland’s Nations League clash against Belgium, his country have confirmed.

The Everton playmaker was on the end of a rash challenge from Jorginho during Sunday’s ill-tempered 0-0 draw away at Chelsea.

Sigurdsson limped off on 76 minutes, after originally deciding to play on following the first-half tackle.

Post-match photographs emerged of the 29-year-old wearing a protective boot on his right leg.

And the former Tottenham star has officially been made unavailable for the game with Belgium and friendly with Qatar during the international break after Iceland confirmed the injury, The Liverpool Echo report.

Sigurdsson has been superb for the Toffees this season, netting six goals from 13 starts across all competitions.

And here is how fans of the Goodison Park side reacted to his setback:

It remains to be seen how long Sigurdsson is out for, but losing him for an extended period of time would be devastating for Everton.

Marco Silva’s side have won four of their last six Premier League games, losing once – a 2-0 defeat by Manchester United.

They’re a team bang in form for the most part and Sigurdsson has played as big a role in their purple patch as anyone.
