The Toffees paid up for Joao Virginia, Yerry Mina, Lucas Digne and Richarlison over the summer, signed Bernard for free and got both Kurt Zouma and Andre Gomes on loan.
Results have been a little mixed so far, but this is a long-term project at Goodison Park, and fans are hoping to see Marcel Brands bring more talented players to Merseyside.
Another striker is certainly needed at Goodison Park, but Everton fans hoping for a major goalscorer to arrive this month may be left a little disappointed.
Boss Marco Silva has today told the Daily Mail that Everton don’t have the ‘financial conditions’ to sign players this month, meaning the Toffees may just wait until summer now.
Offloading some players may help, but the problem is paying wages for players out on loan, such as Yannick Bolasie, Sandro Ramirez, Cuco Martina, Ashley Williams and Kevin Mirallas.
Everton may be able to clear the decks in the summer, whilst it’s well-known that there is better value for money in the market at the end of the season rather than midway through it.
Everton fans have been taking to Twitter to react to Silva’s comments, with some a little disappointed at ‘same old Everton’ not making moves, though others completely understand the comments, believing that it makes sense not to keep spending and spending – especially in January when their additions have been poor, such as Morgan Schneiderlin, Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott.
Others think Silva is using a smokescreen, bluffing people into thinking that Everton won’t be active before they end up striking a deal, though there is a fear that a new striker won’t be arriving.
