According to Spanish football writer Guillem Balague, Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca has rejected the chance to become Everton’s manager in the expectation that Arsenal will reach out [The Express].

Arsenal have the unenviable task of replacing Arsene Wenger, who will leave North London after a 22-year spell in charge at the end of the season.

Everton might also be on the lookout for a new manager, with Sam Allardyce struggling to win over the Toffees’ fans it seems.

Fonseca has long been linked with the role at Goodison Park, with the speculation dating back to before Allardyce was even appointed as Ronald Koeman’s successor in November.

He remains a popular choice among Everton supporters and many of them are not buying what Balague has had to say on the matter.

Here is their reaction to his revelation:

Time will tell who Everton wind up with, but a change is certainly needed.

The Merseyside club’s owner Farhad Moshiri is likely to invest heavily again in the playing staff this summer and, frankly, Allardyce doesn’t inspire confidence that he can get the best out of whoever comes in.
