Everton drew 2-2 with Liverpool on Saturday afternoon, and the fallout from the game continues more than four days on.

Jordan Henderson’s last-gasp winner being ruled out was controversial enough, but some of the challenges in the game have sparked major discussion.

Richarlison was given a straight red card for a rash foul on Thiago, and Jordan Pickford’s challenge on Virgil van Dijk has now seen the Dutchman ruled out for the rest of the season.

Many have slated Pickford for flying out to challenge Van Dijk, though it seems absurd to suggest that he set out to hurt the Liverpool defender intentionally.

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has now taken it one step further, telling Sky Sports that he thinks Everton take it ‘too far’ in games against the Reds.

Wijnaldum feels Pickford’s challenge on Van Dijk was ‘stupid’ and ‘completely unacceptable’, claiming that Everton go over the top with their challenges in Merseyside derbies.

Unsurprisingly, Everton fans have slated those comments on Twitter, branding them ‘ridiculous’ and ’embarrassing’, with some revelling in winding Wijnaldum up so much.

Others think that Liverpool dish out just as much as they receive, and think that Carlo Ancelotti should use these comments as motivation against the ‘weak’ Reds in future.
