Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emie Hojbjerg appears to the source of the first major transfer saga of the summer.
The window isn’t even open yet, but Hojbjerg is at the centre of a tug-of-war between Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.
The Dane is out of contract in 2021, and having failed to sign a new deal, Southampton have stripped him of their captaincy and look set to sell.
There have been various reports about Hojbjerg’s future over the last 24 hours, with one particularly report causing some ire on Merseyside.
The Liverpool Echo report that Hojbjerg has communicated on at least two occasions that he wants to play for Jose Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur.
Everton have been pressing ahead with a move in the hope of convincing Hojbjerg to sign, but it seems Tottenham are his preferred destination.

That hasn’t gone down too well with Everton fans, who have been taking to Twitter to suggest that it’s time for the Toffees to move on.
Some believe there is no point in spending money on a player who would rather be somewhere else, and don’t want Everton to let him come crawling back to them if Daniel Levy refuses to pay for him at Tottenham.
