The Toffees director doesn’t want to spend big on Hirving Lozano and Steven Bergwijn, and fans are split down the middle in terms of support or opposition.

Everton director of football Marcel Brands has stated that his club will not pay over the odds for players as the January transfer window edges closer.
In an interview with Dutch outlet Voetbal International, the Toffees executive discussed the prospect of signing PSV Eindhoven duo Hirving Lozano and Steven Bergwijn.
Brands, who formerly worked at the Eredivisie giants, brought Lozano to PSV from Mexican club Pachuca in 2014, and the 23-year-old has seen his stock rise since then.
Lozano already has 33 goals and 19 assists for PSV in just 60 appearances, and has won 34 caps for Mexico, scoring eight goals including the winner against Germany at the World Cup.
Bergwijn, meanwhile, swapped Ajax’s academy for that of PSV in 2011 and has since come through the ranks, making 102 senior appearances so far including 19 goals and 23 assists (Transfermarkt).
Brands did not doubt the two players’ quality, but making reference to Liverpool’s huge outlay on Naby Keita and the lack of game time he’s had, the director would remain cautious over spending big on players unproven in England.

“Of course Lozano and Bergwijn are interesting players, but €30m for Hirving and €20m for Steven, we will not pay that,” Brands told Voetbal International.
“If Lozano would cost €20m, I would consider it, but at higher amounts we look at players who have already proven it in the Premier League or in another big league.”
Some Everton fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the matter, with some condemning Brands and others praising him:
