Everton came from a goal down to pick up a superb 3-1 win over Burnley – and substitute Andre Gomes ultimately made a huge impact.

The Toffees came into the game unbeaten, and were looking for a third win in four.

Rafael Benitez’s side were dismal in the first half though, and fell behind after the break as Ben Mee put Burnley ahead.

Everton respond with three goals in six minutes

Everton needed to hit back – and what a response they delivered.

Michael Keane equalised against his former club before Andros Townsend hammered in a stunning long-range strike.

Demarai Gray quickly added a third in a bonkers six minutes as Everton turned the game on its head.

All the praise will be going to Townsend and Gray, but Benitez made a key change just after the hour mark.

Gomes changes the game for Everton

Off went Ben Godfrey and on came midfielder Andre Gomes. Benitez ditched the 3-4-3 to go back to a 4-3-3 as Gomes joined Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan in midfield.

Gomes really impressed for Everton, helping gain control of the midfield battle as Everton ran riot.

The Portuguese ace did miss a golden chance to make it 4-1, but Everton fans raved about him regardless.

Some called him ‘exceptional’ and ‘quality’ believing he changed the game.

Others wondered if their eyes were deceiving them as Gomes looked more like the player Everton signed from Barcelona in 2018.

Let’s hope Gomes can continue this form this season, with Everton fans loving what they saw.
