Everton suffered a disappointing loss at Manchester City in a game where Yerry Mina really struggled.

A number of Everton fans have slammed Yerry Mina on Twitter after the defender endured a miserable afternoon as the Toffees suffered a 3-1 defeat away at Manchester City on Saturday.

Marco Silva’s men were handed the daunting task of trying to end their recent run without a win at the home of the champions. Everton may have taken some belief however, from Pep Guardiola’s side being handed their first Premier League defeat of the season last time out.

Unfortunately, City were 2-0 ahead inside 50 minutes. Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus linked up for both goals to seemingly put the home team out of sight.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin would hand Everton a lifeline with 25 minutes remaining, but Raheem Sterling restored their two-goal lead just four minutes later.

And it was Sterling’s goal that rounded off such a poor day for Mina. He lost the City forward in the build-up to the goal after also playing a key role in Jesus’ first strike.

He attempted to play a long pass from inside his own box, but only managed to hand possession back to City. His positioning also allowed Jesus to stay onside before sliding the ball past Jordan Pickford.

Several Everton fans have suggested that Silva’s best pairing at the moment is proving to be Kurt Zouma and Michael Keane, and have wondered whether the heavy outlay in the summer is helping Mina keep his spot in the side when he perhaps does not deserve it.
