Everton opened their Premier League campaign with a goalless draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Everton’s opening day draw with Crystal Palace may not live long in the memory for many of the Toffees supporters, but it appears that it may be looked back upon as the day when Yerry Mina started to prove his doubters wrong.

Marco Silva’s men opened their campaign with a stalemate at Selhurst Park. It was a disappointing afternoon with Andre Gomes going off injured and Morgan Schneiderlin being sent off late on after collecting a second yellow card.

But Mina has been lauded by a number of Everton fans on social media for his performance alongside Michael Keane at the heart of the Toffees defence.

The Colombia international endured a disappointing first year at Goodison Park following his £27 million move from Barcelona (fee reported by Goal). And it would arguably be fair to say that not signing a replacement for Kurt Zouma would have probably been one of Silva’s biggest disappointments from the summer.

But Mina’s display suggests that the Toffees may not miss Zouma as much as some would have expected. He looked composed on the ball and read the game extremely well as Everton limited the home side’s chances.

And while plenty of Toffees supporters felt underwhelmed by what they saw from their side on the opening day, many felt that Mina’s performance provided a major positive and expressed a hope that he can now build on that display.
