Everton were linked to Helder Costa last week.

Wolves winger Helder Costa enhanced his reputation with a lively performance at Anfield to help his team to a 2-1 win over Liverpool.

Costa is on loan from Benfica and The Mail reported at the weekend that manager Paul Lambert is hopeful of getting a permanent deal over the line.

Wolves owners Fosun International have links to Benfica through mutual contact and super agent Jorge Mendes, putting the Championship side in pole position to do a club record deal.

This is fortunate as HITC Sport understand Everton are one of six Premier League sides keen to sign the winger themselves.

Wolves do not quite have the deal completed just yet, and Costa’s performance for his loan club at the weekend offered hope to Evertonians that they should make a push for the 23-year-old.

Seeing Costa cause serious problems for their Merseyside rivals Liverpool prompted discussion that he could be an ideal acquisition, especially with Gerard Deulofeu recently leaving the club for AC Milan.

Everton have big financial backing themselves from investor Farhad Moshiri, and would have no trouble competing with Wolves for his signature, but it is likely too late for them to swing a deal.

Costa’s performance will only highlight how important he is for Wolves, and unless Benfica suddenly increase their demands, he is likely to sign.
