Everton and Liverpool recorded a goalless in the Merseyside derby on Sunday afternoon.

Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool looks on during the Premier League match between Everton FC and Liverpool FC at Goodison Park on March 03, 2019 in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Some Everton fans on Twitter have hit back at Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk for his comments after the Merseyside derby on Sunday afternoon.

Both teams played out a draw and Van Dijk stated after the match that ‘it says a lot’ that their rivals celebrated a 0-0, as quoted by Sky Sports.

It is fair to say that Van Dijk’s comments haven’t gone unnoticed amongst the Goodison Park faithful, with many laughing back at the Liverpool man and others reminding him that he is finding the result difficult to take.

As a result of that game, Jurgen Klopp’s side are now one point behind leaders Manchester City in the table as recent results have seen Pep Guardiola’s men not just catch them up but overtake them in the league.

One Toffees supporter stated that he ‘loves that bt of salt’ from Van Dijk, while another mocked him by saying that the Dutch international ‘talks like he has Ramos’s trophy cabinet’.

Here is a selection of Everton fans reacting to Van Dijk’s comments:

In the game itself, the Reds created the best chances of the game with Mo Salah missing a number of guilt edge opportunities including a one-on-one chance with Jordan Pickford.

There is no doubt that both defences produced high-quality performances, with Van Dijk standing out for his calmness at the heart of Liverpool’s defence.
