The Toffees legend will hang up his gloves at the end of the 2019 MLS season. Some Everton fans got emotional on social media.

It’s always a sad day when professional footballers announce their impending retirements, particularly club legends and for many Everton fans, one such day has come.
United States goalkeeper Tim Howard, who played for the Toffees between 2007 and 2016, is to hang up his boots and gloves at the end of the 2019 MLS season.
The 39-year-old is currently preparing for the new campaign with Colorado Rapids, who finished second from bottom in the Western Conference in 2018.
Howard confirmed his intentions in a Twitter post, in which he stressed the need to put sentiment to one side for the time being:
However, the tweet prompted plenty of sentiment from some Everton fans, who responded to fondly remember one of their greatest players of recent times:
Howard joined Everton from Manchester United in July 2007 and, over his nine seasons at Goodison Park, he made 413 club appearances, keeping 134 clean sheets and even scoring one goal, according to Transfermarkt.
He also won 121 caps for the USA and played in two World Cups, as well as lifting two Gold Cups for his country.
Colorado begin their 2019 MLS campaign in March, and host Portland Timbers, the 2018 runners-up, on the opening day of the season.
