Everton have been linked with the former Arsenal defender.
According to The Sun, Everton are weighing up a shock swoop for Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen.
Everton have already spent the guts of £30 million on centre-back Michael Keane but, according to the English publication, Ronald Koeman wants an additional option.
The Belgium international enjoyed a very decent five-year career at Arsenal but his time at Camp Nou has been littered with injuries.

The 31-year-old, who joined the Catalans in 2014 for £15 million, has only managed 11 Primera Division outings since his switch.
And it would appear as if Barcelona fans are happy for Everton to bring him to Goodison Park this summer – desperate, in fact.
As mentioned in the tweets, Vermaelen’s injury history means it’s a huge risk for Everton and Koeman should certainly avoid bringing him in.
There are better – and healthier – centre-backs available for less money than Barcelona would want for him, so the Dutchman is best off staying clear and exploring other opportunities.
