Allardyce has explained Klaassen’s absence from the Everton side.
Everton supporters should not expect to see Davy Klaassen return to the fold any time soon.
Klaassen has only played 13 times since his £23.6 million transfer from Ajax last summer, and hasn’t made a league appearance since late September – despite being fit for selection.
And speaking to the Liverpool Echo on Wednesday, Everton boss Sam Allardyce confirmed the Dutchman’s exile is set to continue.
“At the moment Davy Klaassen comes in and trains as best as he possibly can and does all what he can on a regular basis,” said Allardyce. “He’s not a sulker, he tries his hardest every time he comes into training.
“But at the moment we see what we see, and we see the qualities of the players and haven’t quite seen that in Davy to encourage us to put him in.
“He’s got big competition and that big competition is something you have to accept and try and improve so if you do get the chance then you take that opportunity.
“Maybe somewhere down the line we will give him an opportunity.”
Already disillusioned with life under Allardyce, many Everton fans are struggling to grasp how the reigning Ajax player of the year – not to mention alleged target for Serie A leaders, Napoli – has failed to get a look in under the former England boss, especially with some regulars deemed not worthy of their place in the team.
